Aaron Shafer, 49, research scientist at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital hits the half-pipe at Society Memphis indoor skatepark. Shafer, who grew up in California surfing uses skateboarding as a general workout and to keep his skills sharp for a surfing trip to Peru on his 50th birthday. Here he skates with his son, Doran, 14 and works out at the St. Jude gym for a total body workout.
